Camping area is huge. There a a lot of sites but the sites themselves are fairly small. Have tent camped there in the past and found it enjoyable. Driving through on Memorial Day weekend 2017, many campsites were overgrown with knee-high grass and there were few campers. The RV camping area looked fairly busy.
This is the best place for camping anywhere around. And there are some bluffs with amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
Great picnic area. The upper level picnic tables don't have grills but the lower & middle levels do. In many sections, the picnic tables are immediately below the parking areas so you may need to get out and look for your perfect location.
The campground was nice. No problems. Bathroom was clean enough. Big open grassy area next to the water tower was great for watching the Orionid Meteor shower. Didn't get to explore much since we were only staying there because the Stone Mountain Campground was full...but I will definitely come back!
Beautiful area but camping was underdeveloped. A single toilet for entire loop. No showers. No water or electric at the campsites, although there were a slight few in their other loops.
It can be windy due to the wide open areas, so a bringing a wind breaker, especially in the fall is recommended.
The views are spectacular, the trails are well-kept, and there is a lot of area to explore. The campgrounds are almost always empty, as are the picnic areas. I actually hesitated about writing a review because I would like to keep this place a secret. I love Doughton Park.
